MONGOLIA SERVICE

DW Mongolia works with the Verbist Care Center and Father Mathieu helping in the orphanage/care center they operate. The trip also helps with the Rainbow Center -- a drop off, day-care center for adolescents with mental and physical handicaps. Each day consists of working at either center, playing with the children and helping prepare and clean meals. There is a day to explore and learn about the city as well as a day to travel to the countryside with all the children. Student who go on this trip see the landscape, some wildlife, and visit a family living in a typical "Yurt" (Gur).

"I went to Mongolia for discovery week and enjoyed every day on that trip. Personally I enjoyed the presence of the orphans we were playing with the most. I think the kids at Verbist Care Center are the most special (in the best way possible) kids I have ever met. They are always so happy, vibrant, full of energy and life. Even if you don't spend a lot of time playing with them, they will still greet you in the mornings with a warm hug and say goodbye as you leave in the evening. Playing with them is such a joy as anything as simple as a balloon will entertain them and keep a smile on their face.Overall I had an incredible experience that I wouldn't have traded for anything. From this week I take away the good memories with the kids at the center and the bonds made with the other students on the trip. Probably the most important lesson I take from this trip is how much I take for granted and how truly lucky and privileged I am."
